What happened to Dallas Summer Musicals? ›

In 2022, Dallas Summer Musicals changed its name to Broadway Dallas. Since 1941, the non-profit Broadway Dallas has presented the Best of Broadway to North Texas audiences.

Broadway Dallas began in 1941 as Opera Under the Stars in the Band Shell at Fair Park. Opening night came on June 12, 1941, with a production of Sigmund Romberg's Blossom Time, an operetta based on the life of Franz Schubert.

The 1836 siege paved the way for Texas independence from Mexico and Texas' eventual entry into the United States of America, representing a legacy of courage.

The musical is directed by Des McAnuff, with scenic design by Robert Brill, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Howell Binkley, projections by Sean Nieuwenhuis, sound by Gareth Owen, and was produced by Tommy Mottola and Thalía. The musical closed on Broadway on December 30, 2018 after 289 performances.
