Anticipated Starting Salary: $87,866.90 STATEWIDE The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. SummaryThe Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) Psychologist is responsible for providing clinical oversight, leadership, and direction to mental health services staff and correctional staff in correctional settings, from minimum to super maximum security, within the Arkansas Department of Correction. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

FunctionsOversees and/or performs crisis intervention and suicide assessment for inmates and provides feedback to other mental health staff regarding such interventions and assessments. Performs assessments of inmates regarding diagnostic considerations, mental status, and behavioral concerns, in order to provide input into treatment program recommendations, treatment plans, case management, and referrals for medication management. Provides clinical supervision to mental health staff and/or interns in the delivery of mental health services to the inmate population. Oversees and/or performs inmate segregation reviews to assess inmate isolation/segregation status. Provides individual and group counseling/therapy to the general inmate population and to inmates secured in maximum security settings. Participates in department, medical, and unit committees to ensure and improve the quality of service delivery of inmate psychological services and coordinate treatment efforts. Prepares and presents professional presentations and/or training to peers, security, and appropriate public entities for the purposes of education and public relations as requested. Assists in developing research and/or outcome assessment activities within the department. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of current correctional practices, specific inmate therapeutic modalities/interventions, assessment procedures, and accepted standards within the field for treatment in correctional settings. Knowledge of psychological theories and the principles of human behavior. Knowledge of psychological testing procedures and evaluation methods. Ability to administer and evaluate psychological tests. Ability to conduct individual/group counseling sessions and develop individualized treatment plans. Ability to prepare reports and maintain files. Ability to monitor and document behavior patterns and modify programs. Ability to work with other staff in the correctional setting in responding to inmate crises, providing continuity of care, and maintaining unit safety and security. Ability to provide clinical supervision to mental health staff and other correctional staff. Ability to testify in court as an expert witness. .

Minimum QualificationsThe formal education equivalent of a doctoral degree in psychology from an accredited institution or a substantially similar doctoral degree in a closely allied field; plus two years of experience performing psychological therapy and individual evaluations, including one year in a behavioral or correctional setting. Must be licensed as a Psychologist by the State Board of Examiners in Psychology in accordance with ACA 17-97-302. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
