A new The Brave and the Bold rumor has just been debunked. DC Studios head James Gunn has dismissed a recent report announcing the supposed writers of the upcoming DC Universe movie.
Nexus Point News recently reported that Andy Muschietti, who is already attached to direct The Brave and the Bold, would also be co-writing the screenplay for the Batman movie with Rodo Sayagues, who is best known for writing Evil Dead (2013), Don’t Breathe (2016), and the upcoming Alien: Romulus (2024). However, as soon as a fan tagged Gunn on the news report on Threads, the DC head was quick to debunk it, simply writing back, "Not true."

Following Ben Affleck's final appearance as the DC Extended Universe's Batman in 2023's The Flash, the Gotham City-based vigilante will be rebooted in The Brave and the Bold, which will take inspiration from writer Grant Morrison and artist Any Kubert's run on DC Comics' Batman. The movie will largely pull from their 2006 comic book story arc, "Batman and Son", which focuses on Bruce Wayne learning that he has fathered a son, Damian, with Talia al Ghul, the daughter of his nemesis, Ra's al Ghul. The Brave and the Bold was part of the initial DCU slate that was announced by Gunn in January 2023.
Who Wants to Play the DCU's Batman?
No casting has been announced at this time for the Dark Knight; however, several notable actors have expressed interest in portraying the hero on the big screen. In March 2024, Jake Gyllenhaal — who portrayed supervillain Mysterio in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man: Far From Home — said that "it would be an honor always [to play Batman]. Those types of things and those roles are classics."
Another Marvel Cinematic Universe star, Black Panther's Winston Duke (M'Baku), also wants a crack at playing the DCU's Batman. In May 2024, while promoting The Fall Guy, Duke revealed that he "would love" to play the character for James Gunn's DCU. Unlike Gyllenhaal, Duke has already played Batman before, voicing the character in the scripted Spotify podcast, Batman Unburied (2022).

DCU's Batman Reboot The Brave and the Bold Gets Discouraging Update
James Gunn's reboot of the DC Universe also includes a new take on Batman with The Brave and the Bold.
Alan Ritchson Remains a Fan Favorite for Batman
While Gyllenhaal and Duke are both talented actors who would probably do Batman justice, the DC fandom has their sights set on two other actors for the role: Alan Ritchson and Jensen Ackles. The former wants to add the Caped Crusader to his already impressive list of superhero credits — he was Aquaman in Smallville and Hawk in Titans — while the latter is the voice actor for Batman in the Tomorrowverse.
"I would love to play Batman," Ritchson said in April 2024. "There, I said it, okay? I'll shout it from the rooftops: 'I wanna be Bruce Wayne!' Here's the thing about Batman. You know what his superpower is? Intelligence. Dude is the smartest superhero there is. He's inventive, and he's got all the gadgets, but he's super smart. I want to be that guy. And, also, to have a cave with, like hypercars, sports cars, and awesome motorcycles."
The Brave and the Bold does not yet have a release date.
